This antivirus software connects to an online database to stay up
to date on the most recent virus threats. While most programs
automatically update themselves, ESET requires you to update the
virus signature database yourself. This is done by simply pressing
the Update button, but it does create a vulnerability if you don’t
remember to update the program often. The software will alert you
when the database needs to be updated.
For technical support, you can contact ESET via email, telephone
and live chat. While email support is available anytime, telephone
and live chat are only available on weekdays for about 12 hours.
For self support, you can find solutions, videos and an
encyclopedia of threats on ESET’s website.
There was significant slowdown of the test computers when AV-Test
looked at ESET’s performance on Widows 10. AV-Comparatives didn’t
show as much lag, and our own in-house tests didn’t show any
slowdown when we reviewed ESET NOD32 Antivirus. These tests are
conducted by doing normal computer activities while the program
runs its virus scan. We mimicked independent tests by finding a
normal time range then looking for any lag while performing the
same functions, including checking email, web surfing and file
sharing. We took our tests a step further and played online games
and watched videos where any slowdown would be most noticeable, but
this software created no issues.
